After much speculation about which we speculated on in our speculative article (try saying that when you’re trying to battle a myriad of Daleks), it has now been confirmed that Rakhee Thakrar will be joining the Big Finish family as new companion Bliss alongside the Eighth Doctor for the Time War Series. She joins Paul McGann in Part 1 of a 4-part series which forms a prequel to Big Finish’s The War Doctor stories.
Producer, David Richardson says:
“‘He may be trying to avoid getting embroiled in the Time War, but the Eighth Doctor has found a new friend who knows how to blow up a Dalek – enter Bliss, a scientist trying to stay alive in the heat of temporal battle. Matt Fitton wrote the part for Rakhee Thakrar, and it was lovely when Rakhee accepted the part with such total delight. She’s brilliant and lovely and fits right in with the ever growing Big Finish family.’”
Rakhee is another EastEnders alumnus who has joined the Whoniverse – along with Michelle Ryan who played Lady Christina in the Tenth Doctor special, Planet of the Dead, Bonnie Langford (aka Mel Bush), and Michelle Collins who appeared in 42.

Thakrar enthuses:
“Getting to voice the role of Bliss alongside the Doctor is an absolute dream. She’s a character who I’d like to be more like; someone who puts aside her own fear to help others. I think Big Finish have created a great companion with Bliss; she’s incredibly bright but is not excluded from making mistakes and having a sense of humour. I find her very real, and she’s a joy to play. I’m thoroughly excited to join the Doctor Who team.”
Fans of Liv Chenka and Helen Sinclair shouldn’t be worried: Paul McGann’s adventures with the pair will continue beyond Doom Coalition 4. Stay tuned to the DWC for more news as we get it…
