Last night saw the glitzy premiere of Victoria, Jenna Coleman’s first major role since departing the TARDIS, and to mark the right royal occasion, ITV have confirmed the air date.
The new 8-part drama will begin on Sunday 28th August at 9pm, taking the prime time slot of the award-winning drama Downton Abbey.
Fittingly housed in the beautiful and very fitting setting of Kensington Palace in front of a specially invited audience, the premiere was attended by Coleman, who plays the young Queen Victoria, alongside her co-star Tom Hughes, who plays Prince Albert, and such Doctor Who luminaries as Torchwood star Eve Myles and The Sarah Jane Adventures own Tommy Knight.

The brand new mini-series follows the early life of Queen Victoria from her ascension to the throne at the tender age of 18, through to her courtship and marriage to Prince Albert.

Created by novelist Daisy Goodwin, who makes her screen writing debut here, Victoria, which also stars Rufus Sewell, Alex Jennings, Paul Rhys, and Peter Firth, will make its US bow on Masterpiece on PBS in the United States on the 15th January 2017.
