Celebrate 60 Years of Doctor Who Art In New Exhibition Opening This Weekend

A new art exhibition opens this weekend (21st October 2023) to celebrate 60 years of Doctor Who.

Adventures in Time and Space – 60 Years of Doctor Who Art covers every era of the show, and features original work by an array of Doctor Who artists including:

  • Chris Achilleos
  • Colin Howard
  • Jeff Cummins
  • Andrew Skilleter
  • Lee Binding
  • Lee Sullivan
  • Anthony Dry
  • Dave Gibbons
  • Stuart Crouch
  • Bill Donohoe
  • David McAllister
  • Sophie Leong
  • Gwen Burns
  • Mike Collins
  • Eren Angiolini
  • Jessica Martin

Some of these artists — including Colin Howard (best known for the VHS covers and Doctor Who Classic Comics covers) and Jeff Cummins (the Target novels) — will be there on opening day.

The exhibition is at Weston Museum, Weston-super-Mare, in the South West of the UK.

This is the largest collection of original and digital art from and about the programme ever shown in one location.

(The featured image at the top of this page is by Colin Howard — and yes, we hear it will be in Weston Museum’s exhibit!)

The exhibition unfolds like the pages of a well-worn book, displaying iconic book covers, a blast from the past with those VHS video covers we all remember, annuals, comics, and graphic novels that have kept us hooked. To add a sprinkle of that quintessential Doctor Who magic, there’s even a painting that made its debut on the show itself.

The Museum has dived into the TARDIS of artistic archives, rounding up an exceptional collection from private art collectors and dedicated fans who’ve lovingly held onto these visual treasures. The exhibition was organised by the South West Heritage Trust and Events of Wonder.

Adventures in Time and Space – 60 Years of Doctor Who Art runs from 21st October 2023 to 27th January 2024.
