The latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine reveals four new cast members guest-starring in the Doctor Who festive special and in Series 14.
Comedy writer and actor, Gemma Arrowsmith (Tracey Ullman’s Show; Spitting Image), and Vera‘s Mary Malone will be in the “end-of-year special”, which is also expected to introduce Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor and Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday. It’s speculated that it’ll air on Christmas Day 2023, although nothing’s been confirmed, so it could be any time during the holiday period.
And Majid Mehdizadeh-Valoujerdy (Hollyoaks) and Billy Brayshaw (A Christmas Story Christmas) will be in Series 14.
Speaking to Doctor Who Magazine, Executive Producer Phil Collinson said:
“The cast for our end-of-year special is continuing to grow. Though still with some names we haven’t announced yet!
“But it is a delight to welcome two more names on board, with Gemma Arrowsmith and Mary Malone… and you won’t have to wait long to find out how they connect to the Doctor and Ruby Sunday.”
“Coming up after that, in the 2024 series, it’s a delight to open the studio doors to a former star of Holloaks with Majid Mehdizadeh-Valoujerdy. His character in [Hollyoaks], Kesse, doed of alcohol poisoning on his wedding day, so let’s hope he has a more peaceful time in the Whoniverse. Although I can’t promise!”
“And, in a separate episode, we’re delighted to say hello to Billy Brayshaw. And there are so more names to come!”
It’s curious that Series 14 is still being referred to as “the 2024 series”; it certainly makes us think of the speculation that Series 14 will be considered “Series 1” again, with a new cast and crew taking over the programme.
Not too long to wait now — Doctor Who is set to return to TV in November!
