Celebrating the 60th Anniversary: Doctor Who @ 60 – A Musical Celebration Concert

Music from across six decades will be celebrated as part of Doctor Who‘s 60th anniversary later this year, with a special concert in Wales, to be broadcast on BBC Radio 2.

Doctor Who @ 60: A Musical Celebration will feature music by Dudley Simpson, Paddy Kingsland, Murray Gold, and Segun Akinola — not to mention Ron Grainer’s Doctor Who theme as originally brought to life by Delia Derbyshire (as part of the BBC Radio Radiophonic Workshop).

The concert will take place at the BBC Hoddinott Hall in the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff, where tracks will be played by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the BBC Singers group. They’ll be joined by Murray Gold, who scored for the first 10 series of 21st Century Doctor Who, and returns for Series 14 and 15 at least, which will star Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor.

New showrunner, Russell T Davies, will also be at the concert.

Doctor Who @ 60: A Musical Celebration will also be broadcast on BBC Radio 2.

We don’t actually know when it’ll take place, apart from sometime during the autumn. The smart money, however, is on November 2023, that being the programme’s 60th anniversary.

Three episodes — The Star Beast, Wild Blue Yonder, and The Giggle — are expected to air in November too, starring David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor and Catherine Tate as Donna Noble.

We’re told that more news about the concert will be revealed soon…
