Euros Lyn, who’s directed nine episode of Doctor Who so far, has said that the series is a “difficult job to turn down”, hinting that he’d welcome a return to the show.

When asked if he’d come back, Lyn said:

“It’s such a wonderful show. And the premise that each episode can take you anywhere in space and time means that it would be a really difficult job to turn down.”

Euros is surely one of the series’ best directors, having won the 2007 Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form for The Girl in the Fireplace and the BAFTA Cymru award for Best Director for Silence in the Library/ Forest of the Dead (2008).

He also directed the entirety of Series 3 of Torchwood, aka arguably its strongest run, Children of Earth, plus The End of the World, The Unquiet Dead, Tooth and Claw, The Idiot’s Lantern, Fear Her, and The Runaway Bride. His last Doctor Who was the Tenth Doctor’s swansong, The End of Time.

Sadly, he didn’t helm any stories while Steven Moffat or Chris Chibnall were showrunners.

But now, of course, Russell T Davies is showrunner again, and Lyn directed episodes of His Dark Materials, produced by Doctor Who‘s new production company, Bad Wolf… so surely it’s only a matter of time?

Or maybe Davies has his sights set on a new batch of directors. We reckon he’ll have a solid mix of new and returning faces, however, so let’s wait to see what’s around the corner…
