The Three Doctor Who 60th Anniversary Specials to be Adapted Into Target Novelisations

The three upcoming Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials will be turned into Target novelisations, the first (and perhaps only) stories for David Tennant’s Fourteenth Doctor!

Each book — The Star Beast by Gary Russell, Wild Blue Yonder by Mark Morris, and The Giggle by James Goss — will have specially commissioned cover artwork by the regular Target novel artist, Anthony Dry, inspired by the work of Chris Achilleos.

This is pretty remarkable: the three stories, which also feature the return of Catherine Tate as Donna Noble (plus lots of surprises, we’re sure), will be aired on BBC1 in November 2023, and these novelisations will hit shelves just a few months later, on 11th January 2024.

Might we see Target novels of the Fifteenth Doctor’s adventures (that is, Ncuti Gatwa’s incarnation of the Time Lord) much sooner than predicted too?

The Star Beast is inspired by the Doctor Who Magazine comic strip of the same name, with the nefarious Beep the Meep; we don’t know a great deal about Wild Blue Yonder and The Giggle, though it’s likely Neil Patrick Harris’ mysterious antagonist will be in the latter.

Launched in 1973, Target Books published novelisations of almost every Doctor Who serial aired between 1963 and 1989; BBC Books started to release all-new novelisations of 21st Century Doctor Who episodes in 2018, and we’ve got a series of new additions to the range coming later this month, including The Waters of Mars, The Zygon Invasion, and Kerblam!. This year, Target Books celebrates its 50th year publishing Doctor Who books.

You can pre-order The Star Beast by Gary Russell, Wild Blue Yonder by Mark Morris, and The Giggle by James Goss now!
