Neil Gaiman has cast further doubt on the idea of him returning to write another episode of Doctor Who.

When asked whether he’d come back to the show, he replied:

“And on Doctor Who, I don’t know. I love being in the Doctor Who audience, and being really excited to not know what’s coming.”

That seems to imply he’s happier solely as a viewer, not knowing what’s going on behind the scenes. Then again, he might be telling a white lie — he could’ve already been asked to come back by new showrunner, Russell T Davies! Or, more likely, he’s not been approached yet but is keeping his options open. Either way, it’s nice to hear he’s still a fan of the franchise.

Gaiman, of course, wrote two stories for Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor: the acclaimed Series 6 episode, The Doctor’s Wife, in which the TARDIS effectively becomes a humanoid woman; and Nightmare in Silver, which saw a new Cyberman design take over Hedgewick’s World and pose a threat to the wider universe once more.

He’s also written tales like Rory’s Story, Nothing O’Clock, and One Virtue, and a Thousand Crimes, the latter two stories during the government-enforced Covid-19 lockdown.
