Frozen and Glee Star, Jonathan Groff, Joins Doctor Who Series 14

Jonathan Groff will play a “key role” in Doctor Who Series 14, the first full run of episodes with Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor.

Groff is an award winning star of stage and screen, having shot to fame playing Jesse in Glee; most will know him, however, as the voice of Kristoff in the hit Frozen franchise from Disney. The BBC promises that he’s now “on his way to jump aboard the TARDIS in a mysterious and exciting guest role”.

Might this mean he’ll be a series regular? We’ll have to wait and see.

Jonathan Groff said:

“I am so thrilled to jump into the extraordinary mind of Russell T Davies and watch the incredible Ncuti Gatwa soar in this iconic role!”

Jonathan has also made his mark on Broadway, dazzling audiences with his performance as King George III in Hamilton; he was nominated for a Tony Award and a Primetime Emmy Award for the live stage recording.

Showrunner, Russell T Davies said:

“This is an incredible coup, and a great honour, to get such a huge star striding on to our set. So strap on your space boots, this is going to be a blast!”

You might also recognise Groff for playing Eric in Knock at the Cabin, Rick Sheridan in Invincible, and Agent Smith in The Matrix Resurrections.

Gatwa is set to fully debt as the Fifteenth Doctor in a special festive episode this Christmas, with Series 14 to follow in early 2024.
