On Tuesday 14th February 2023, Ncuti Gatwa was spotted filming in Newport for the Doctor Who Christmas Special, expected to be the first full episode with the Fifteenth Doctor.
The scenes saw the new Doctor dotting in and out of the TARDIS, running around a church yard in the snow. Millie Gibson, who plays new companion Ruby Sunday, was also on location.
The Doctor was sporting a red leather jacket, striped shirt, and trainers — different to the outfit previously announced as the Fifteenth Doctor’s official look (as above). Might we get a fashion-conscious Doctor who changes his appearance depending on what era he finds himself in, or depending on his mood? That would be pretty cool.

While Gibson has been seen before on location, alongside Jemma Redgrave who returns as UNIT’s Kate Stewart, these last few days have been the first time Gatwa has been seen shooting for Doctor Who Series 14, as he’s been filming the fourth season of Sex Education.
Previously, Gatwa and Gibson have been spotted filming festive scenes in Bristol, doubling as Notting Hill.
The Fifteenth Doctor and Ruby are set to properly debut in the 2023 Christmas Special, written by new showrunner, Russell T Davies. However, it appears we’ll see the Fifteenth Doctor before then; he made a surprise appearance in the trailer teasing the Doctor Who 60th anniversary (which will otherwise star David Tennant as the Fourteenth Doctor and Catherine Tate as Donna Noble).
