Mary Reynolds, who played Queen Elizabeth II in Silver Nemesis, has announced she’ll no longer be a professional lookalike, retiring “out of respect” for the late Monarch.

Reynolds made an uncredited appearance in the Doctor Who 25th anniversary story, when the TARDIS parked up in Windsor Castle (actually Arundel Castle).

Mary, who has played Queen Elizabeth II in a few productions, including the 1990 comedy film Bullseye!, said:

“It’s been a great privilege to look like her because I think she’s so incredible.

“I mean, it’s a change of an era now, it’s all going to be very weird.

“I was watching the television the day before and felt that there was going to be some bad news, which of course eventually came and it makes you feel very, very, very sad.

“And then you do sort of realise that will be the end as far as I’m concerned… out of respect, I don’t think one should do anything.”

She had apparently been likened to the Queen since the age of 17, and, though she never actually met her, Reynolds nonetheless appreciates royalty and slept in a tent on the Mall when Queen Elizabeth II got married.

As for her appearance in Doctor Who, producer, John Nathan-Turner actually sent a letter to Prince Edward, asking him if he wanted to appear in the story. He declined, and the producer thought it might’ve been at the intervention of the Queen. Still, we’re informed that the Queen was a fan of Doctor Who too, which is neat to know.

Obviously, the Queen’s funeral will be held on Monday 19th September 2022.
