The Last Episode with Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor Is The Power of the Doctor

Jodie Whittaker’s final regular episode of Doctor Who is The Power of the Doctor.

The title was announced in the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine, dedicated to the Centenary special.

This will also be showrunner, Chris Chibnall’s last episode; he and Jodie have been working on Doctor Who since Series 11 in 2018, alongside Mandip Gill, who plays companion Yasmin Khan. Since then, John Bishop joined the cast as Dan Lewis in Flux. All are expected to leave at the end of the next story, after which Russell T Davies returns as showrunner for the Doctor Who 60th anniversary special in November 2023. Or maybe before. Maybe with more than one special — well, that seems most likely now anyway. Davies gave up the role back in 2009 (though his last episode, The End of Time: Part Two, aired on New Year’s Day 2010), handing it over to Steven Moffat.

The name evokes serials like The Power of the Daleks, The Power of Kroll, The Power of Three (also written by Chris Chibnall), The Name of the Doctor, and The Day of the Doctor.

It feels a little odd, in truth, that the DWC has been going since 2016 and so has seen Moffat leave, Chibnall leave, and Davies come back; the Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi) regenerate and the show’s first female Doctor cast; and numerous companions, including Bill Potts, Nardole, Graham O’Brien, and Ryan Sinclair, come and go. It’s pretty cool too, but man, how time flies.

What do we know about Whittaker’s last episode? Not a great deal, although it’s expected to air in October 2022, meaning we’ll have just over a year to wait until the 60th anniversary.

It’ll feature Daleks, Cybermen, the Master, and the return of companions, Ace (Sophie Aldred) and Tegan Jovanka (Janet Fielding).

As this era of Doctor Who draws to a close, how are we feeling, DWC readers?
