Doctor Who Series 13 Title and Airdate Announced: Watch the New Teaser Right Now!

We can finally enjoy a look at Doctor Who Series 13, thanks to a new teaser which debuted earlier this evening, just before Strictly Come Dancing.

It confirms the return of the Sontarans and the Weeping Angels.

This series will seemingly have one title — Flux — and will begin on BBC1 and BBC America on 31st October.

In case you missed that, the Doctor teases:

“Can you hear me? Listen carefully, we don’t have much time. The Flux is coming. It’s bringing with it the Sontarans, Weeping Angels, creatures known as the Ravages, and enemies from across the universe. This is the fight of our lives.”

This will be the last full season with Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor and probably Mandip Gill as Yasmin Khan, and which will introduce new companion, Dan Lewis, played by comedian, John Bishop. The run will consist of 6 episodes and be followed by three specials across 2022.

This will also be the final run of stories from showrunner, Chris Chibnall, who hands over the role to the returning Russell T Davies for the 60th anniversary of Doctor Who in 2023.

The publicity machine began whirling with a glimpse of what appeared to be a Sontaran ship hovering over Liverpool. The Doctor kept interrupting transmissions too, asking the audience if they could hear her.

Next, the BBC apparently took the curious decision to delete most of the Doctor Who accounts — Facebook, Twitter, the official site, Instagram, even YouTube (which is annoying for anyone who wants to see the specially-made video publicising Doctor Who: The Collection — Season 17, featuring the return of David Gooderson as Davros). Everything but Tumblr which they apparently forgot about.

This prompted the hashtag #WhereIsTheDoctor, which trended on Twitter UK (alongside numerous other topics which might have answered that question, including “Chippy”, “Soho”, and, uhm, “Dogging”).

Then messages across Liverpool urged fans to call 0800 678 3110. Anyone who did was met with a voicemail from the Doctor telling them to “be ready”. Eagle-eyed fans read between the lines and guessed “3110” referred to the transmission date, i.e. 31st October 2021.

When their social media pages returned, they began their follower counts again, meaning the official Doctor Who Twitter account lost nearly 2 million followers…

UPDATE: It appears to be a glitch because the account went from 0 followers, slowly rising as people began following again, then jumped to 1.6 million again. Perhaps Twitter helped out because it’s a verified account — we don’t know.

But hey, let’s not bode on that possible error, because Doctor Who: Flux is coming!
