Viewers waiting for Strictly Come Dancing on BBC1 were surprised on Saturday night when an exceedingly short teaser for Doctor Who Series 13 aired.
The clip merely showed Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor briefly breaking up the channel’s transmission.
The teaser was then shown a few times over Sunday too, including before Strictly Come Dancing: The Results Show. (Contestants this year have included Doctor Who alumni on the dance-floor including Dinosaurs on a Spaceship‘s Robert Webb and The Eleventh Hour‘s Nina Wadia. And Tom Fletcher from McFly, who backed Harold Saxon in The Sound of Drums…)
Yes, it’s a really short clip, but it does at least mean that the publicity machine has begun whirring away, and that the airdate for Series 13 is imminent.
Presuming Doctor Who once more gets a slot on Sunday evenings, the smart money is on either the 17th, 24th, or 31st October 2021.
Could it start on Hallowe’en? It seems a good fit for Doctor Who, and yet, isn’t there the worry that kids will be out trick or treating, rather than watching the series?
I guess we’ll find out…
