Would Loki Star, Sophia Di Martino Like to Play Doctor Who?

If, like me, you’ve been enjoying the (now sadly finished) first series of Loki on Disney+, then you’ll no doubt recognise an actress who has made quite the impression on many fans…

Like Florence Pugh’s Yelena in Black Widow, Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie, a Loki from an alternate timeline, blew fans away with her performance and will likely dominate the next Comic Cons with cosplay.

While watching Loki, I was very impressed by her performance and one thought that went through my head was what a good Doctor she might make. In fact, the whole Loki series felt like something that might come out of the Steven Moffat era of Doctor Who, with Loki standing in for the Doctor, Sylvie his companion, and the TVA as… well, basically the Time Lords.

And it would appear that I wasn’t the only person who thought that Sophia Di Martino might make a brilliant future incarnation of the Doctor.

Many fans jumped on social media to especially express the likenesses between Who and the third episode of Loki, entitled Lementis, which sees Loki and Sylvie time travel to Lementis-1, a moon in the far future on the brink of annihilation. It’s a very Doctor Who thing to do and it seems that Martino agreed when talking to the Radio Times:

“I see what they mean [about the episode] – the duo, as well; we’re each other’s companion!”

She was also asked if she would ever think about playing our favourite Time Lord, or even a future incarnation of the Master, she replied that she certainly wouldn’t turn her nose up at it, though she was also clear that she didn’t really know too much about Doctor Who.

As good an incarnation I think she would make, I think it’s highly unlikely she’ll go for the role anytime soon, given the ending of Series 1 of Loki, and the announcement of a second series. And I think she’ll probably be in future Marvel films, like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and possibly Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. She’ll be a little too busy to even think about doing Doctor Who in any shape or form if a role were offered to her.

But I still think she would be brilliant in the title role — maybe one day we’ll get her as the Doctor. Until then though, she’ll no doubt continue to impress us all in Loki!
