Matt Smith, Richard Curtis, and Bill Nighy are joining Twitter today to take place in tonight’s tweet-along rewatch of Vincent and the Doctor, a worldwide event that encourages fans to play the classic episode at the same time as peers all across Earth to strengthen this wonderful Doctor Who community we’re all part of.
This is the first time Smith, Curtis, and Nighy (respectively, the Eleventh Doctor, Vincent and the Doctor scribe, and Dr Black actor) will be on the social media platform, and they’re joined by Karen Gillan (Amy Pond), Tony Curran (Vincent van Gogh), and Script Editor, Emma Freud.
They’ll be giving us behind-the-scenes details on the making of the 2010 episode.
It follows the success of similar tweet-alongs for The Day of the Doctor and Rose earlier this month.
Today would have been the much-loved artist’s birthday, and as the story is a modern classic which deals with mental health and brings people together, it’s the perfect time to revisit Vincent and the Doctor.
These events have been orchestrated by the wonderful Emily Cook of Doctor Who Magazine, and there’s another lined up already: The Eleventh Hour, Matt and Karen’s first Doctor Who and the start of a new era of the show, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. Let’s hope Matt sticks around for this upcoming rewatch too, perhaps tempting Steven Moffat back to Twitter as well…
Fans can either load up their DVD or Blu-rays, or find the episode on streaming platforms (BBC iPlayer and Netflix in the UK; Amazon Video, iTunes, and Google Play elsewhere) at 7:00pm BST tonight – that’s Monday 30th March 2020. Use the hashtag #TheUltimateGinger on social media to take part.
