In a ‘surprise’ that will surprise no one, the Daleks are back for the next Doctor Who special, which will air over the festive period. The episode will be called Revolution of the Daleks, as revealed at the end of The Timeless Children, the Series 12 finale.
The story’s cliffhanger saw the shock reappearance of the Judoon (who debuted in Smith and Jones in 2007 and returned earlier this year in Fugitive of the Judoon), sentencing Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth Doctor to life imprisonment. And this is the Doctor so being imprisoned for life is a very, very long time.
Showrunner, Chris Chibnall said:
“We can’t leave the Doctor there! On that cliffhanger! Well, we did. But rest assured, the Doctor and her friends will be back for a one-off extended Special around Christmas and New Year. (I don’t know when they’re going to put it on yet, otherwise we’d tell you!). There will be Daleks. There will be exterminations. Thrills, laughter, tears. You know. The usual. See you at the end of the year.”
Fingers crossed the show gets its Christmas Day slot back, but we’re worried that ship has sailed. Happy to be proven wrong, however!
Revolution of the Daleks was shot on location around the Cardiff area in October 2019, and plenty spotted new black Daleks on Bristol’s Clifton Suspension Bridge on 22nd-23rd October.
Jodie Whittaker, Mandip Gill, Tosin Cole, and Bradley Walsh will all return for the festive episode.
