Good news, loyal fans: showrunner, Chris Chibnall has confirmed that Doctor Who Series 13 will air sometime next year – and we’d put money on its transmitting in Autumn 2021 (or late summer, perhaps).
Chibnall said:
“It will be next year sometime, hopefully, unless my holiday goes on for a really long time, which is always tempting.”
The series, which will see the return of Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor, begins filming in September 2020, with pre-production work kicking off in June. While this certainly doesn’t rule out the season making it to screens in Spring 2021, it is very unlikely.
Rumour has it that Series 13 will air in Autumn 2021.
Chibnall will obviously be back as showrunner, and went on to say:
“We are already planning the stories. Once you see the end of this series, you’ll realize there are some stories we’re already setting in train for next series. We have very big, ambitious plans for our third series together.”
Series 12 concludes this coming Sunday (1st March) with The Timeless Children, and is set to change the show’s canon in a pretty major way.
We’ll have to wait until next year to see the ramifications of the finale…
