Kate Herron and Briony Redman Announced as New Writers on Doctor Who

Two writers have finally been revealed for an upcoming episode of Doctor Who featuring Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor!

Writing duo, Kate Herron and Briony Redman, have written an episode which showrunner, Russell T Davies, describes as “gorgeous and thrilling and scary, and not like any other episode of Doctor Who“.

Herron is best known as the executive producer and director of Loki Season 1 (and directed Sex Education, starring Gatwa), while Redman is an actor, comedian, and BAFTA Rocliffe winning writer, whose work includes the Pont Brec. They’ve previously collaborated on Miss Universe and the comic book, The Storkening.

Kate Herron said:

“Clearly I can’t get enough of time travel. It is an absolute honour to write for Russell and Ncuti. We had so much fun and can’t wait for you all to see it.”

Briony Redman said:

“As a big fan of Doctor Who and Russell T Davies, it’s been a dream to write on this show.”

And Russell T Davies enthused:

“This is when I absolutely love my job. Working with the stellar talents of Kate and Briony makes my whole world bigger and brighter, and a lot more fun. I was a huge fan of Loki and reached out to Kate to say so – she then introduced me to Briony, and it was all systems go!  They’ve written a wonderful script which created unique challenges for cast and crew alike. The end result is gorgeous and thrilling and scary, and not like any other episode of Doctor Who.”

The curious thing is, we don’t know when their episode will air. We’re presuming it’s during Doctor Who Series 14, but it could equally be Series 15, as that has begun filming too.

Either way, it’s fantastic to finally hear who, apart from Davies, will be crafting stories for the Fifteenth Doctor!
