The Thirteenth Doctor’s regeneration has been named TV Moment of the Year at this year’s Edinburgh TV Festival Awards.

The awards were voted for by the public, so it’s fantastic to see Doctor Who still so prominent in the public’s consciousness!

The regeneration took place at the end of The Power of the Doctor, with Jodie Whittaker handing the baton over to David Tennant, who returned to the programme, albeit this time as the Fourteenth Doctor — the character even recognised those familiar teeth.

Jodie’s final scene took place at the top of a cliff, overlooking a gorgeous sunset/sunrise.

BBC1 was also named Channel of the Year at the awards ceremony, while further winners included Happy Valley (voted Best Drama), which starred Partners in Crime star, Sarah Lancashire; ITVX (Best On Demand Service), which hosts a range of content featuring various Doctor Who stars, including Tennant who played the titular role in Litvinenko, acting alongside Mark Bonnar (The Rebel Flesh/ The Almost People) and Daniel Ryan (Midnight); and The Traitors, which didn’t star anyone from Who, but was still very enjoyable and is highly recommended (in particular, The Traitors Australia was mad and excellent). Presenter, Claudia Winkleman, bagged the Outstanding Achievement Award.

Considering there’s not been a huge amount of Doctor Who on screens recently, seeing The Power of the Doctor recognised like this is certainly a great thing, and with the 60th anniversary coming up, it seems that Doctor Who is well an truly under the spotlight.
