The Fifteenth Doctor and Ruby Sunday will head to the 1960s in Doctor Who Series 14, as new looks for the Time Lord and his (presumably human) companion have been revealed. And oh yes, they are very Sixties.

This is yet another outfit seen for Ncuti Gatwa’s incarnation of the character — unusual (especially in comparison to, say, the Fifth, Sixth, and Ninth Doctors, who seldom changed costumes, except perhaps swapping one jumper for another), but not unheard of: the First Doctor sported a rather fetching ensemble for The Reign of Terror, for example; the Second Doctor went a little Scottish for The Highlanders; and the Tenth Doctor did a thing with his hair for The Idiot’s Lantern (not to mention The Day of the Doctor — stop screaming at the back).

This will be the first full season with Gatwa as the Doctor, accompanied by Millie Gibson as Ruby Sunday. Both are looking groovy, baby.

It’s pretty cool that Doctor Who is returning to the 1960s, the decade in which the programme debuted, but which hasn’t featured in the show as extensively as you might think — indeed, apart from brief instance like in The Chase, the first visit to contemporary London was The War Machines, towards the end of the First Doctor (William Hartnell) era.

These photos have surely been released now before too much on-location filming has taken place for whichever episode or episodes are going in front of the camera (presumably towards the end of Series 14). One photo leaked on Twitter beforehand, but showrunner, Russell T Davies, nonetheless has a grasp on how to deal with leaks and filming photos expertly.
