Might every 20th Century Doctor Who story be coming to BBC iPlayer? It’s looking likely…

In a recent interview, Russell T Davies has addressed how he intends to usher in a new era of Doctor Who — by instilling a love of Classic Who in youngsters. We 100% approve.

Davies said:

“You make all of the back catalogue available, first, on iPlayer. I can’t swear that will happen, but there are contracts. It’s our heritage, it deserves to be there so kids can fall in love with Doctor Who like they love Friends.”

The fact that contracts are being drawn out is especially exciting; this doesn’t sound like a pipedream — it could happen in the near future!

It’s wonderful to hear that Davies still utterly loves Classic Who and that he knows its magnetism. We often hear nonsense about people potentially being put off by wobbly sets or Nimon, but a lot of fans who came to the show since 2005 (myself included) went back and watched the first eight Doctors and fell in love with the programme as a whole entity.

Right now, you can watch 20th Century Doctor Who through BritBox, which is now owned by ITV. We can see them being pulled off the streaming service soon and finding a new, free home on BBC iPlayer. Let’s just keep our fingers crossed.
