Russell T Davies Has Begun Production on the Fourteenth Doctor Era

There’s been little in the way of official news on Series 14 of Doctor Who but, as we know, fans of the series are an inquisitive bunch and snippets are starting to emerge thanks to the efforts of dedicated web trawlers.

So Phil Collinson’s online CV has seemingly confirmed that he’s making a return to Doctor Who as producer of the next series. The same source has a listing for Vicki Delow, whose credits include World on Fire, The Last Kingdom, and Humans, as Block Producer on Series 14. Rather curiously, this source refers to the series as ‘currently in production’, whereas Collinson’s listing on the same site has it as ‘currently in development’. Make of that what you will.

Other than that, we don’t really know much about what to expect. Russell T Davies has said that, as one would have expected, he’s been busy writing episodes for the new series, and that auditions for the next Doctor are underway. But then he’d hardly jump the gun by spilling the name of the next Doctor in an interview when such news will be the subject of a carefully orchestrated announcement.

Nature, as we all know, abhors a vacuum and in the absence of any official casting news some folks have been getting very excited by a rumour that, in an extension of the reunion of the old gang, David Tennant is set to make a return to the series. Apparently, he’d be in place for three special episodes before a new Doctor is installed.

As our friends at Doctor Who TV say, there’s a a certain logic in this prospect given that 2023 is a big anniversary year for the programme and Tennant would surely draw the viewers in, but then again ‘it could all be a load of old rubbish’. Indeed. My favourite response was Georgia Tennant’s despairing wail on Twitter.

So beyond a sense that wheels are turning and people are being put in place, we can’t add much in the way of hard facts yet. But do let us know your thoughts on production of Series 14 in the comments, and look out for more news as we get it!
